The Reason I Started a Second Business
In 2012, I built a freedom-based business with Mermaid Kat and my Mermaid School. Together with an incredible team, I created a life filled with travel, creativity, purpose, and the freedom to live life on my own terms. For a very long time, it felt like I was exactly where I was meant to be.
But sometimes, even when you love what you have built with all your heart, life gently whispers that it might be time to grow again.
After more than a decade of working as a professional mermaid, I slowly realised that I no longer felt called to slip into my mermaid tail as often myself. Over time, my role naturally began to change.
Instead of being the one performing most of the time, I found more fulfilment in mentoring other mermaids, supporting their journeys, and helping create opportunities for them to shine.
That shift also led me to expand into Mer-People — connecting mermaids and mermen with events, shows, TV productions, and special projects. In many ways, I moved from being the one in the spotlight to creating opportunities for others to step into theirs.
“Mermaid Kat” and everything connected to it will always hold a very special place in my heart. It was my first baby. The dream I poured years of passion, love, and dedication into.
And one day, I realised something beautiful. That baby had grown up. Not because I loved it any less. But because it no longer needed me in the same way.
So over the last few years, I found myself searching for my next chapter. My next “baby.” Something that would challenge me, inspire me, and light me up in a completely new way. Something that could fulfil me again — differently, but just as deeply.
My Hair Journey (And The Reason Everything Changed)
For many years, I felt unhappy with my hair, and at the same time, it was something that was constantly on my mind. Over time, I kept noticing that my hair was becoming thinner while barely growing at all.
As a professional mermaid, this felt especially challenging because my hair has always been part of my expression, my confidence, and the image I created. For years, I wore extensions and wigs because deep down, all I really wanted was to love my own hair.
Of course, I tried everything that gave me even the smallest bit of hope. I tested countless hair products, explored different supplements, and spent years searching for something that would truly make a difference. I even went through painful treatments because I wanted so badly to find a solution. One example was PRP treatments, where my own blood plasma was injected into my scalp. While I did notice some small improvements, the process was incredibly time-consuming, uncomfortable, and expensive.
And still, for a long time, I felt like something important was missing. It wasn’t until much later that I realised something powerful: Real change happens when you finally find the right solution.
The Turning Point That Changed Everything
In December 2025, I finally decided to try something new after watching the market for a long time. For more than two years, I had seen people sharing how much they loved MONAT hair products and the positive experiences they were having.
Even then, I hesitated. I had already tried so many things over the years, and I didn’t want to get my hopes up again only to end up disappointed. But eventually, something inside me told me it was time to give this a real chance.
So I started trying the products myself while paying close attention to my hair and scalp journey. Before long, I began noticing changes. I found myself looking more closely, becoming more aware, and slowly seeing things shift.
I noticed less hair shedding. I spotted new baby hairs coming through. My hair felt healthier overall and looked visibly fuller. And for the first time in many years, I felt like my hair was finally thriving. And in that moment, I realised something important. I had found something that truly worked for me.
